Ishikawa suffers stage fright
Ryo Ishikawa, Japan's teenage golfing sensation, has been feeling the pressure as he makes his debut on the US PGA tour.
Ishikawa carded a 2-over 73 in the first round of the Northern Trust Open yesterday (February 19th).
After scoring a double bogey on the second following a wayward approach, he sent the ball into thick rough on the fifth, reports Japan Today.
The 17-year-old, who is likened to Tiger Woods in his native country, said his body was "stiff" through all of the day's 18 holes.
He commented: "I have never had a day like this, it was a totally different kind of nervousness. I was looking forward so much to playing on this big stage but I can't say I enjoyed myself today."
Recently, the Saitama-born golfer accepted a special invitation to play at the Augusta National Golf Club in Georgia in April.
Other Japanese golfers taking part in the US PGA tour include Ryuki Imada and Shigeki Maruyama.
