In Japan Entertainment News,
New Ghibli poster attracts surprise criticism
The next Studio Ghibli film is already under fire following the release of new poster art, and considering it will be the first without its co-founder at the helm, it could be make or break for the new picture.
Upcoming release When Marnie Was There was announced last week with poster art featuring an attractive anime girl, and criticism of the sketch came from a surprising place indeed.
Newly-retired founder Hayao Miyazaki was the first to wade in, proclaiming the tactics of using a pretty blond girl to be "just plain outdated and cheesy".
At a recent press conference, producer Yoshiaki Nishimura played down the criticism from the acclaimed director and artist, claiming the illustration is just a depiction of one of the film's principal characters.
Only time will tell how well the picture is received by Ghibli fans, but one thing is certain - it is bound to receive plenty of attention upon its release on July 19th.
