Miki Ando appears in skate show shortly after announcing birth of daughter

Japanese world figure skating champion Miki Ando has appeared on stage just days after announcing that she gave birth to a baby girl back in April.

The 25-year-old performed in an ice show staged in Fukuoka as she danced to a ballad by the artist known simply as AI, entitled Mama e or To Mother.

It was arguably a demonstration that the pregnancy has not taken too much of a toll on the skater's body.

Speaking in an interview for the TV network Asahi, Ms Ando suggested that she is planning to take part in the winter Olympics due to take place in Sochi, Russia in February 2014.

"I want to continue working hard on the rink in a responsible manner," she said.

The mother-of-one is known as the first and only female skater to successfully complete a quadruple jump in competition. In addition to being the Japanese National Champion in 2004, 2005 and 2010, she became World Champion in 2007 and regained the title in 2011.
