Japan dumped out of WBC
The Japanese team will not be able to retain their World Baseball Classic title this year after they bowed out at the semi-final stage with a 3-1 loss to Puerto Rico.
Manager Koji Yamamoto becomes the first coach of the Japanese team to have lost the trophy, as the nation has claimed wins in the two previous events.
He said: "Of course I have aimed for three consecutive winning championships, and I had some expectation that we would be able to do that.
"But this is such a big international game, and it's been a while since I did the big international game. I did have pressure that I need to do this."
Yamamoto was without his Major League Baseball stars for the tournament, which meant the team was full of players from the Japanese league.
Puerto Rico have been in great form in the WBC, knocking out a star-studded team from the US and now they go into a final with either the Netherlands or the Dominican Republic.
