Darvish admits he wants to move to MLB
Japanese pitcher Yu Darvish has admitted to fans he wants to join the Major League Baseball (MLB) in a post on his blog.
The star revealed he would be using the posting system to apply for a place in the league, which enables MLB teams to bid for Japanese players already tied up with teams, the Associated Press reported.
At 25-years-of-age, this marks a strong turn in Darvish’s career after going 18-6 in a league leading 1.44 ERA this season for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters.
Darvish said: “I have decided to use the posting system. I wanted to tell my fans directly, so that is why I am posting this on my blog.
“I owe a lot of thanks to my team,” the news provider quoted.
While other top players Daisuke Matsuzaka and Ichiro Suzuki secured MLB places through the posting system, the Fighters also gave Darvish the freedom to move through this method.
Last week, it was revealed Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Scott Mathieson would be moving to the Yomiuri giants in January after a deal was struck between the two teams.
