In Japan Sports News,
Japanese ice skater Daisuke Takahashi has won the NHK Trophy for the third time.
The world champion performed well in the free skate element of the competition with a quadruple toe loop and six triple jumps to finish 16 points ahead of American competitor Jeremy Abbott.
"I haven't been hitting the quad much in practice, so I didn't think I would today," said Takahashi, reports the Japan Times.
"Many young Japanese skaters are coming up and I want to stay on the top, so I knew I had better go for it," he added.
The Japanese skater underwent surgery on his right knee in 2008 and confirmed that it has healed well.
Third place was awarded to France's Florent Amodio, who enjoyed a strong free skate programme to help boost his total points score.
Takahashi won the bronze medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics and is set to appear at the forthcoming 2010 Skate America competition in November.
