In Japan Sports News,
Japanese footballer to move to England
Yuki Abe is set to move from Urawa Red Diamonds to Leicester City football club, although the deal still has to be fully finalised.
The Japanese international player has yet to have a complete medical and there seems to be some confusion over the number of caps he earned for Japan - which could limit his right to a British work permit.
Urawa Reds general manager Koichi Hashiratani, speaking to Kyodo News, stressed that the midfielder did play in all of Japan's World Cup games so he should just about qualify under special circumstances.
"I believe there is a new challenge waiting for me there and I'm hoping to finalise the move," said Abe.
The footballer was the youngest ever to play in the Japanese league when he made his debut in August 1998 and played a vital role in Urawa wining the 2007 Asian Champions League.
Japan succeeded in qualifying as one of the final 16 teams in the World Cup before losing to Paraguay in the first knockout stage.
