Daio wasabi farm
Wasabi fans will love exploring a working wasabi farm - but do you dare try wasabi ice cream?
What would Japanese food be without a hot dash of wasabi? Similar to horseradish, wasabi is a root plant used as a condiment for sashimi (raw fish slices) and sushi. To better understand wasabi, a day trip from Matsumoto to Daio wasabi farm is a must-do. The farm, one of the largest of its kind in Japan, has many large wasabi fields with a pristine network of irrigation channels, larger rivers and traditional watermills. Wandering around the fields is a nice way to soak up the atmosphere of rural Japan. Of course, you'll want to taste some of the farm's wasabi too and the farm shop and restaurant offer all manner of wasabi flavoured goods including wasabi ice-cream!
