Begin married life in Japan with a honeymoon that blends art, big cities and quieter days on the Seto Inland Sea. Read more >
You’ll have private guiding on selected days, a traditional Kyoto wedding photoshoot, see plenty of Japanese art and travel in style: first-class seats on the Shinkansen bullet train, a couple of journeys by private boat and the chance to see the coast by e-bike.
Your journey begins in Tokyo, where a private Insider shapes the city tour around you. That might mean green tea in a city garden, shopping in Shibuya, or yakitori and sake at one of their favourite local spots. In Kyoto, a stylist will help you dress in a white silk shiromuku and formal black montsuki kimono, before a wedding kimono photoshoot, for photos you can look back on for years to come. That evening, sit down at an exclusive ryotei restaurant for dinner and conversation with a maiko (traineed geisha) with your Insider translating as you go.
Glide up to the art island of Naoshima by private boat. Here, art isn’t restricted to within gallery walls. Works appear on beaches, inside village homes, as well as in the galleries of Benesse Art Site Naoshima and Chichu Art Museum. From there, island-hop across the Seto Inland Sea and cycle a section of the Shimanami Kaido with your guide, passing lemon groves in Setoda or riding beside Sunset Beach. Prefer something less energetic? Wind down with Zen meditation instead.
Try ramen at a Fukuoka riverside yatai cart, before exploring Nagasaki: a port city where Dutch and Chinese trade left its lasting mark on the food, architecture and outlook of the city.
By the time you return to Tokyo, you’ll be rested, recharged and have celebrated in style, seeing the big city sights, relaxing in onsen hot springs and seeing some of Japan’s’ more artistic side.

Day 1-2
Explore Tokyo with your dedicated, private Insider guide.
Your guide is a true Tokyoite and will show you their city in a way that's totally tailored to you and your partner. Whether that's joining the scramble at Shibuya crossing before hitting the multi-storey shopping malls, getting a green tea in a city garden, or simply going to your Insider's favourite izakaya for some yakitori skewers and a sake. Tell us what you're most excited to see and in Tokyo, and your Insider guide will make it happen.
Suggested Accommodation: 1 Hotel Tokyo
-
Day 3-5
Celebrate your wedding Kyoto style, with a wedding kimono photoshoot – and meet a trainee geisha for dinner and conversation.
Dressed in a white silk shiromuku and formal black montsuki kimono, you'll be styled by a specialist dresser in a historic machiya townhouse before taking part in elements of a traditional ceremony. A professional photographer will capture the experience, something for your living room wall back home, perhaps. Then, meet a trainee geisha (maiko) at a private ryotei restaurant for an elegant meal and entertainment, with conversation translated by your Insider.
Suggested Accommodation: Hotel Kanra Kyoto
-
Day 6-7
Travel by private boat and explore the art island by e-bike.
Travel by first-class bullet train and private boat to Naoshima – often credited as the pioneer of the Japan island art movement. Explore by e-bike, stopping off at world-class Chichu Art Museum and Benesse Art Site and beyond. Art extends beyond the gallery walls on Naoshima, and has found its home on beaches and in traditional homes.
Suggested Accommodation: Naoshima Ryokan Roka
-
Day 8-9
Island hop and cycle across the Seto Inland Sea, with time to unwind in onsen.
The Seto Inland Sea is home to a section of the Shimanami Kaido cycle route, and on your honeymoon, you can cycle part of it. Depending on the route you and your guide choose, you may find yourselves biking through lemon groves and alongside ocean views, stopping for grilled emperor oysters and a private sunset cruise. Back at your hotel, unwind together in a private onsen bath.
Suggested Accommodation: Azumi Setoda
-
Day 10
Stop for a yatai cart meal in Kyushu's gateway city.
Back on the mainland, Fukuoka is the main city of Kyushu, a more-chilled out city when compared to the mega metropolis of Tokyo. And its dining reflects that. Pull up a stool at a riverside yatai streetfood cart and try a warming bowl of Hakata ramen, a rick pork broth packed with noodles, meat and vegetables. It's a sociable way to eat, sitting next to locals grabbing a bite after work.
Suggested Accommodation: The Ritz-Carlton, Fukuoka
-
Day 11-12
Learn how Nagasaki's trading history shaped the future and culture of Japan as a whole.
Nagasaki was once one the only trading port open to the outside world in Japan – the gateway not just to goods, but to foreign ideas and culture with limited trade with the Dutch and Chinese.
Today, its atmosphere, food and architecture still reflect those layers of influence. Your private Insider guide will explain the history on a tour through the city. Head up to Glover Garden for sunset views over the harbour.Suggested Accommodation: Hotel Indigo Nagasaki Glover Street
-
Day 13
Fly back to Tokyo for one final night
Time for some last-minute shopping in the luxury boutiques of Ginza or Omotesando – known as the Champs Élysées of Japan. You'll be taken directly from your hotel to the airport, so you can fully relax into the end of your journey, and the start of married life, together.
Suggested Accommodation: TRUNK(HOTEL) YOYOGI PARK
