Fuji Rock 2009 kicks off today
The Fuji Rock 2009 festival begins today, with bands set to take to the stage over the weekend including Oasis, Franz Ferdinand and Fall Out Boy.
Singers also on the line up include Lily Allen, Patti Smith and Paul Weller.
The event takes place at the Naeba Ski Resort in Niigata, Japan and this year's festival will run until Sunday (July 26th).
Festival organisers describe the event as a unique experience, urging music fans to remember "cooperation and respect of nature" in order to enjoy the experience.
Last year's festival marked the 150th anniversary of the Anglo-Japanese Treaty of Amity and Commerce.
To celebrate this occasion, the 2008 line-up featured a host of UK bands, including Kasabian, Bloc Party and Travis.
Japanese broadcaster Fuji TV NEXT will be reporting live from the festival, so music fans could find they have the chance to mark their trip to Japan by appearing on local TV.
