Ichiro makes 4,000th hit

Yesterday (August 21st) saw Japanese baseball star Ichiro Suzuki become only the third player in the world to get to 4,000 hits in Major League Baseball.

Ichiro currently lines up for the New York Yankees and it was at their stadium that he made this impressive milestone, much to the delight of his teammates and fans.

After the game he said the way his teammates reacted and came out on to the pitch to support him is "what's going to make this very special". The Yankees went on to win their game against the Blue Jays 4-2.

Ichiro made his move to the US in 2001 after playing for Orix Blue Wave in Japan's Pacific League for nine years. He started out with the Seattle Mariners, before moving to the New York Yankees in 2012.

Only Pete Rose and Ty Cobb now have more Major League hits than the 39-year-old Ichiro.
