Sumo wrestler 'admits' cannabis possession

Sumo wrestler Wakanoho has been arrested on suspicion of possessing a cigarette containing cannabis.

The 20-year-old wrestler was accused of possessing the Russian-made cigarette, which violates Japan's Cannabis Control Law, after police searched his home and the Magaki sumo stable he belongs to, reports the Mainichi Daily News.

Investigators made the raid after Wakanoho's wallet, which contained the offending cigarette, was found in the street by a member of the public and handed in to local police.

Wakanoho is reported to have admitted to the allegations, saying that he receive the cigarette from "a foreigner in Roppongi".

In May, Wakanoho received a warning from the executive board of the Japan Sumo Association after losing control following a defeat, reports Japan Today.

The wrestler currently has a record of four victories and 11 defeats in last month's Grand Sumo Tournament and holds the rank of maegashira.
