Japan "developing as a holiday destination"
Japan's reputation as a holiday destination has increased as travellers opt to explore the country's wide choice of attractions, claims the National Tourism Organisation.
Kylie Clark, senior PR & marketing manager for the Japan National Tourism Organisation, explained that many visitors are keen to visit areas of the country which may not be the traditional tourist hotspots.
She explained: "We are seeing increasing numbers of people explore further afield, including to Hiroshima to see the Peace Park, Hokkaido and Nagano for skiing and snowboarding and Okinawa is becoming popular for honeymooners after Japanese beach breaks."
However, Tokyo remains the main destination for those travelling from the UK as all direct flights from London go to the capital city.
Recent data from British Airways revealed that Japan has been named as seventh in the airline's top ten destinations for 2011.
