Japanese athlete to run farm

Japanese runner Naoko Takahashi has announced she is to stop running for a while and set up her own vegetable farm, it has been reported.

The 37-year-old marathon runner, who has previously scooped gold in the Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia, in 2000, said she is to begin farming in an area on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, said Reuters.

Announcing the new venture, Takahashi said: "It's a new challenge for me. We are currently discussing what we want to grow. We are studying hard - we want our produce to be really delicious."

According to the news source, the athlete made the announcement dressed in an orange-coloured farming suit complete with rubber boots and was also holding a giant radish and an onion.

Takahashi hails from Gifu in Japan and was born on May 6th 1972. She is a long-distance runner who mostly takes part in marathon events.
