In Japan Entertainment News,
Japanese star gets suspended sentence
Japanese pop star and actress Noriko Sakai has been given a suspended sentence after being convicted on drugs charges.
After appearing at the Tokyo District Court, 38-year-old Sakai was given an 18-month sentence suspended for three years for drug use and possession, said spokesman for the court Yoshikazu Ishizawa.
The conviction followed Sakai's arrest back in August, along with her husband, 41-year-old Yuichi Takaso.
The incident sparked controversy as shortly after her husband was arrested, Sakai disappeared for a week with her son before handing herself in and being charged.
Since the incident, Sakai's career has faltered and a number of her commercial deals have been cancelled, as well as her recording contract with Victor Entertainment.
The group has also removed all of the star's albums and other products from Japanese retailers.
Sakai first rose to stardom in the 1990s after releasing a number of pop singles and appearing on Japanese TV.
