Studio Ghibli to start new TV series
Legendary animation specialist Studio Ghibli is to start a new TV series next autumn on NHK BS Premium, with the story to be based on the popular children's book Ronia the Robber's Daughter.
The announcement comes shortly after the filmmaker celebrated big wins at the animation awards - the Annies - including a Best Writing accolade for Hayao Miyazaki and a nomination for Best Animated Picture.
Of the new TV series, producer Toshio Suzuki is currently keeping very quiet about the details, but confirmed he had given the story a lot of consideration before deciding to do it.
"Ronia the Robber’s Daughter is a project that Studio Ghibli has also thought about many times," he added.
Mr Suzuki also acknowledged the departure of Mr Miyazaki from the company, saying he is interested to see what his son and fellow director Goro Miyazaki can achieve now that his father has officially left the company.
