Tokyo gears up for Miss International
Renowned beauty pageant Miss International will be opened with a stylish flourish this week (December 17th ) in an extravaganza of fashion and sophistication in Tokyo.
The 53rd incarnation of the awards ceremony will occur at the Shinagawa Prince Hall in the Japanese capital, where 72 contestants will attempt to out-smile and out-flutter each other for the affections of the judges.
2013 marks the second consecutive year that Japan has hosted the Miss International pageant, with the 2012 event being held in Okinawa in October.
Ikumi Yoshimatsu from Japan was crowned Miss International at the end of the festival with Ecuador-born Fernanda Cornejo giving up her crown with grace and style.
Those wanting to attend the 2013 pageant will find that Shinagawa is easy enough to reach from Tokyo Central train station. The doors open at 4:30pm with the contest getting underway an hour later.
