Les Miserables takes over Tokyo
Tokyo hosted a royal premier of the film version of the hit stage musical Les Miserables on Tuesday (December 18th).
The event was attended by Crown Prince Naruhito. It was the second time the film's star, High Jackman, had been to the city in the space of a few short weeks.
On November 26th, Jackman was present at a promotional event to drum up interest in the movie in Tokyo.
Jackman got to sit next to Prince Naruhito at the screening of the film and was pictured in the auditorium applauding alongside the film's British director Tom Hooper.
Both the film and the musical versions of Les Miserables are based on the French historical novel by Victor Hugo. The story was not translated into a musical until 1980 when it opened in Paris at the Palais des Sports.
It is now one of the most successful musicals of all time thanks in part to the music composed by Claude-Michel Schonberg.
