Japan - a technology lovers holiday?
Japan is fast emerging as the ideal destination for science and technology fans.
The Nobel Prize in physics has recently been awarded to three scientists born in Japan who invented a blue light-emitting diode. This is a more efficient way of lighting than incandescent bulbs.
Technology fans have also this week gathered at the Combined Exhibition of Advanced Technologies (CEATEC) to see and celebrate some of the latest releases from companies such as Sony, Toshiba and Sharp Corp.
Indeed, it seems like the tech world has their sights firmly set on Japan and the country has a strong reputation for innovation, although global competition has taken some of the shine off the industry of late.
It is hoped that by bestowing the Nobel Prize to Japanese scientists, the country's electronics industry will receive a boost.
The scientists being honoured are Shuji Nakamura, Isamu Akasaki and Hiroshi Amano.
Japan is largely recognised as having a monopoly on LEDs but pressure from other parts of the world is increasing.
The recent CEATEC exhibition will no doubt remind people of Japan's technological prowess. Held in Chiba, the exposition will play host to 550 companies and organisations from around the globe. The event ends on October 12th and kicked off on October 7th.
Gadgets on offer include Toshiba Glass - a pair of glasses weighing 42 grams. A Toshiba researcher told the Malay Mail Online that the device can offer translation of what people may be looking at or help factory workers who need their hands free.
