Fukushima to host Tokyo Girls Collection
The Fukushima prefecture in Japan is to host one of the country's most anticipated and important fashion events of the year, with organisers hoping to communicate the unyielding strength of the area that was struck by disaster in 2011.
Tokyo Girls Collection (TGC), which will occur on April 29th in the Tohoku region of the prefecture, showcases the latest in fashionable streetwear by domestic brands and is open not only to buyers and journalists but also to the public.
It attracts an enormous crowd, made up primarily of women in their 20s and 30s, and has run on a semi-annual basis since its inception in 2005.
While the fashion is undoubtedly the main draw, the public are also invited to enjoy charity auctions, live concerts from well-known artists and other family-friendly activities.
A huge group always gathers in front of the main catwalk in time to see the Miss TGC Contest winner crowned at the close of the event.
