In Japan Entertainment News,
Japan's video game market grows by 1.2%
Japan's video game industry continued to perform well during the 2012 fiscal year, growing by 1.2 per cent to US$4.6 billion
The figures were published by the Tokyo-based magazine Enterbrain and appeared in the Nikkei.
They revealed that software sales for game consoles like the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 totalled $2.8 billion, which was a 1.2 per cent increase on 2011.
Thanks to the introduction of products like the Wii U and 3DS, along with a reduction in price for the PlayStation, hardware sales were up by five per cent to $1.8 billion.
There could be a further boost to this in the next year or so as Microsoft is expected to announce a next generation Xbox, and Sony might follow this up with a new PlayStation.
Given that it has been a while since the two giants of gaming consoles unveiled new hardware, it is likely that these products are snapped up in large numbers.
