UFC targeting further Japanese events
The UFC is targeting further events in Japan and the rest of Asia after the success of two well-received recent showcases of the sport.
UFC executive vice president and managing director of UFC Asia Mark Fischer told MMAjunkie.com that the organisations will obviously be coming back to Japan.
Earlier this month, Saitama played host to an event which culminated in Wanderlei Silva taking on Brian Stann.
However, the crowd turned out in the most part to see the best Asian fighters, including Takanori Gomi, Yushin Okami, Mizuto Hirota and Dong Hyun Kim, with two out of the four claiming hard-earned wins.
Mr Fisher explained that the organisation would like to bring five or six events to Asia in 2014, with Japan set to host a number of them.
He also noted that the firm's The Ultimate Fighter show, which finds the next generation of talent, could come to Japan for a series in the future.
"We don't have a specific plan yet, but we are in discussion with a number of people. We think it would be a very good initiative to grow the UFC here, as well as the sport of MMA here," he concluded.
