Japan reaches WBC final round
Japan secured their spot in the World Baseball Classic final round with a comfortable 14-6 win over the Netherlands.
The victory means the two-time defending champions will take their place in the latter stages of the event, when it moves to San Francisco.
Japan have been missing their Major League stars and have been under pressure since a loss to Cuba in the first round and having to go to an extra-inning to defeat Taiwan.
But, the team rallied against the Dutch, taking a 10-0 lead at the end of the fourth inning.
Koji Yamamoto, Japan's head coach, said: "I'm really glad that we achieved our first goal of reaching the final stage."
The team are now guaranteed a spot in the four-team final series, which will feature two teams from the Asian groups and two from the pools that are being played in Puerto Rico and Arizona.
The US have already qualified for the second round, with a win over Canada and they move on to the next stage in Miami.
