Japanese interest in Thailand sparks charter airline business
Burgeoning interest in travel to Thailand has resulted in Japanese travel agent H.I.S Co's decision to set up a charter airline in Bangkok.
The venture will make use of Asia Pacific Airlines (Apa) which will ferry passengers between Tokyo Narita and Bangkok. The venture is set to start up in the second quarter of 2013.
While there will initially be just two aircraft in the airline's fleet, this may increase to ten if demand requires it.
"As demand for international flights is expected to jump in Asia, we want to secure our own aircraft so that we can offer services to both our current and new customers flexibly," an official said.
Recent figures released by Asia Pacific airlines suggest that business is booming. Initial results show that it carried 17 million international passengers in October, which was a 2.7 per cent increase on the same time period in 2011.
