Pop star Ayumi Hamasaki divorces Manuel Schwarz
Japanese pop star Ayumi Hamasaki is to file for divorce after being married to the Austrian actor Manuel Schwarz for just over 12 months.
Yesterday (January 16th), the musician and actress used her official fan club website to announce that she would divorce her husband, the Mainichi Daily reported.
Thirty-three-year-old Hamasaki met Schwarz in Los Angeles while she was filming a video for her song Virgin Road in August 2010. The pair married five months later on New Year's Day 2011.
It is thought that a major factor behind the split was Hamasaki's desire not to leave Japan.
Her management revealed that though she had originally intended to move to the United States to live with Schwarz following their marriage, the twin disaster in March renewed her desire to stay in Japan, the news provider said.
Having sold over 50 million records in Japan, she is one of the country's most successful ever singers with a presence right across Asia.
