Serbia beat Japan in football warm up

The Serbian national team have beaten Japan in a warm-up match ahead of this summer's World Cup.

Japan were defeated 3-0 at home in Osaka but match reports suggest that neither team played particularly well. Sky Sports said that both sides were "far from full strength" but did praise a number of free kicks taken by the Serbian squad.

Commenting on the loss, Japan coach Takeshi Okada blamed an unstable defence for the defeat.

"They were stable in the second half, but I feel that we must play more aggressively when we are behind," he further explained.

For the 2010 World Cup, which is to be held in South Africa, Japan have been put in Group E. This will see them face the Netherlands, Cameroon and Denmark.

Fifa currently ranks the Japanese national team as the 45th best team in the world, one place below the Republic of Ireland and one above the Latvian national squad.
