Kintsugi Gold Repair Workshop
Join a Kyoto master in his studio, set among the city's historic temples, to explore this luminous art of finding beauty in the broken.
With over 40 years of experience, Tsuyoshi discovered kintsugi as an art student and has dedicated his career to it ever since. He has restored countless treasured ceramics, taught students from Japan and abroad, and created his own refined works that reflect decades of mastery.
The art of kintsugi is where broken pottery gets given a new life. Sealed with pure gold dust, this craft is believed to have emerged in the late 15th century, when a Japanese shogun rejected crude repairs returned from China and inspired artisans to find a more refined solution. Rather than hiding damage, kintsugi celebrates it, turning each crack into part of the object's story. Rooted in the wabi-sabi aesthetic, it embraces impermanence and imperfection as essential to beauty.
