Museum of Contemporary Art
Explore 90 years of Japanese art in a landmark building
Tokyo's Museum of Contemporary Art explores the work of Japanese artists in the 90 years since the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, highlighting the social changes that that have characterised this period of Japanese history.
The museum itself is a beautiful piece of architecture designed by Yanagisawa Takahiko to be part of the art. Huge white rooms are flooded with natural light from skylights and exhibitions are complemented by natural wood and stone blocks. Other highlights include a sunken garden, V-shaped structural supports and a water-and-stone promenade.
