Beer brewery tours
Hokkaido is the true home of Japanese beer, so take a Sapporo brewery tour to find out more.
Beer first found its way to Japan in the 17th century when the Dutch opened a beer hall for sailors en-route from the Dutch East Indies. Later during the Meiji Period, the art of brewing was brought from Germany to Hokkaido as a development project and today beer accounts for two thirds of all alcohol consumed in Japan. Many Japanese beer brands including Asahi, Kirin and Sapporo are now famous around the globe.
In order for you to get a true understanding (and tasting!) of Japanese beer, we recommend a guided visit to a brewery in Sapporo. After a tour of the plant which will teach you the production process, you'll have time to enjoy a free sampling session with some light snacks.
