A favourite for families seeking the best of Japan, this timeless vacation brings together the country's highlights into one unforgettable experience. From the electric energy of Tokyo to the traditional elegance of Kyoto and the vibrant spirit of Osaka, the journey slows in Hakone, where healing hot springs at a luxury ryokan provide the perfect time to unwind before returning to Tokyo. Read more >

Tokyo, Japan’s dynamic capital, brings your teenagers’ virtual worlds vividly to life. In districts like Akihabara, Shibuya and Shinjuku, glowing pachinko parlours, late-night karaoke sessions, gaming arcades, anime-lined streets and fashion-fuelled department stores create a constant buzz of colour, sound and movement, giving the city an atmosphere that feels electric at every turn.

Before you know it, you’ll find yourself lying back in first class comfort on the Tokaido shinkansen to Kyoto where the mood shifts to one of elegance and tradition. Geisha tea houses, lively markets, samurai sword dance, colourful kimono’s, combined with hands-on cultural experiences offering a deeper introduction to Japan’s heritage.

High-energy excitement awaits in Osaka, Japan’s second-largest city, known for its lively and less traditional character. As you explore the streets, sample local favourites from sizzling takoyaki to crispy kushikatsu, and discover the city’s famous philosophy of kuidaore “eat until you drop” on a private food tour. For families seeking something different, a visit to Universal Studios Japan offers an exciting alternative day out.

Unwind in Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, at Hakone, the Eastern gateway to the Park. Mt Fuji views, traditional Japanese hospitality at your ryokan stay, and open-air baths provide space to recharge, before returning to Tokyo for a confident finale. Our choice of exquisite luxury hotels ensure comfort and privacy, allowing every generation experience Japan in their own way.

      Day 1-2

Welcome to Tokyo, where imagination meets reality at every turn. Whether that's playful people watching in Harajuku or vintage thrift shopping in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo is a playground for all ages.

You'll be joined by one of our local “Insiders”, who will introduce your teens to Tokyo's iconic gaming scene. Try your hand at multi-storey arcades and video game cafés, alongside hidden retro gems. Alternatively, visit the trendsetting districts of Harajuku and Shibuya, Shimokitazawa or Nakano Broadway, known for vintage collectibles, cosplay and J-pop finds. Simply discuss your theme of choice with your travel consultant.

In the evening, your guide will introduce you to a traditional izakaya, where small plates and a relaxed atmosphere offer an easy and enjoyable introduction to Japanese dining.

      Suggested Accommodation: Peninsula

    • Day 3-5

      Day 3-5

In Kyoto, tradition meets fun, with experiences designed to engage the whole family. From a rickshaw ride to a private restaurant to meet a young maiko (trainee geisha) to hands-on cultural activities, each moment is designed to surprise and delight.

Relax in the comfort of the Green Car as you travel by shinkansen to Kyoto, Japan's cultural heart and home to an extraordinary collection of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

While it would be impossible to see them all, you will be led by our local Insider guide with private driver, to showcase the very best of the city on a full day tour.

Step into the world of the samurai with a Kenbu masterclass, where teenagers learn basic sword movements, bowing and performance techniques. Rooted in centuries of tradition, these disciplines continue to shape Japanese culture today, offering a meaningful and engaging way to understand the country beyond the surface.

On your free day, why not take the train to Nara, Japan's first capital (710-794) and home to one of the largest bronze statues in the world at Todai-ji Temple. Feel free to make friends with the tame deer roaming freely around Nara Park.

Suggested Accommodation: The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu

    • Day 6-7

      Day 6-7

As Japan's second largest city, Osaka is known as ‘Japan's Kitchen' (Tenka no Daidokuro) dating back to the Edo period when it was the main hub for rice trading and food distribution.

Today the legacy lives on in its street food culture, with favourites like tako-yaki (octopus balls) and okonomiyaki (savory pancakes), making an evening food tour a really fun way to eat and see the city!

Spend a day at Universal Studios Japan, home to the world's first Super Nintendo World , with express passes included to make the most of the park's most popular attractions.

      Suggested Accommodation: Patina Osaka

    • Day 8-9

      Day 8-9

We invite you to slow down the pace, with time to unwind in soothing onsens in the surroundings of a traditional ryokan in Fuji National Park.

Hakone sits within a volcanic landscape, known for its hot springs and views of Mount Fuji. On a clear day, the views are magical. Your guide will take you along the network of cable cars and mountain railways, the open-air sculpture park and Picasso gallery, and local specialities like eggs boiled in volcanic waters. Staying in a ryokan is a fun and memorable way for families to experience traditional Japan, with tatami rooms, futon beds and beautifully prepared meals. Relax in your private in-room onsen or take the plunge and try the public hot springs, either way, the choice is yours.

      Suggested Accommodation: Gora Kadan

    • Day 10-11

      Day 10-11

Return to Tokyo for a final night in the capital, with time for last-minute shopping or to explore the immersive digital world of teamLab Borderless at futuristic Azabudai Hills, one of the city's newest and most stylish complexes, where your hotel is located.

Alternatively, head to Miraikan in Odaiba, a hit with kids interested in science and innovation, reached by monorail across the Rainbow Bridge, with great views along the way. If time allows, why not extend your stay to explore more. Your Travel Info Pack will have plenty of options for you to consider.
