Starwood opens new Sheraton resort in Okinawa
After months of renovation, the Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort is opening to the public and upping Starwood’s presence in Japan.
Having been converted from a different hotel, the resort at Sunmarina Beach on Okinawa’s main island has seen many of its guest rooms and public spaces overhauled.
There are currently 200 rooms available, but an additional 46 are being constructed in a new south wing, which is scheduled to be unveiled at the end of 2016.
Extra accommodation is not the only plan in development, as a beach bar and restaurant are also being brought onto the site.
These will allow guests to enjoy light meals and cocktails featuring Okinawan liquors without needing to leave the resort.
Those interested in the other facilities available will be keen to hear a new wellness centre with an indoor pool, gym, spa and beachside café are in construction.
Wedding ceremonies will eventually be able to be held overlooking the sea, once the chapel is completed.
Jean-Raphael Felus, general manager of Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort, said: “Sheraton Okinawa Sunmarina Resort is set to elevate the local hospitality landscape here in Okinawa, especially as the island continues to be a sought-after beach resort destination for domestic leisure tourism and also increasingly, for affluent global travellers.
“We look forward to welcoming guests to this beautiful location, and in delivering an effortless experience that will enable them to explore everything this island has to offer.”
The resort is an hour’s drive from Okinawa’s Naha Airport and is in a convenient location for visiting many of the attractions visitors come to the island to experience.
Starwood has around 20 hotels and resorts in Japan, with many of them coming under the Sheraton brand.
