1. How would you describe your overall level of satisfaction with us as your tour operator?
We had a fantastic holiday in Japan. We liked the concept of a self-guided trip and the complete flexibility offered by InsideJapan Tours: we felt that we were getting a bespoke holiday within our available timeframe. The initial consultation was valuable – a chance for both sides to ask questions which helped create the perfect itinerary. The quality of the materials provided by the company, both during the creation of the itinerary and especially once everything was finalised, was exemplary. The booklet covering all aspects of the trip was invaluable once we were in Japan. Everything which was promised was delivered perfectly: the transfers, the reservations, the tickets etc. The company also accommodated a late change to our travel plans which required collection from a different airport. The choice of hotels was very good and we appreciated staying in two different hotels in Tokyo at the start and end of our trip – it was nice to experience entirely different parts of the city. The three guides we had on different days were all excellent, especially the one in Kyoto who, being a non-native (though fluent in Japanese and a long-time resident), was able to give particularly interesting insights into life in Japan and the differences (and similarities) to Western culture. The attention to detail by the company was pleasingly evident at various times such as the guides knowing in advance about minor dietary needs and also having seats on the train which gave the best views of Mount Fuji. Although we didn’t have reason to contact it, we were reassured to know that the company has an office in Japan, so if we were to get into difficulty (very unlikely in this country) it could be resolved swiftly. Overall, we were delighted with the service provided by InsideJapan Tours. We really did feel we had the perfect holiday.

Nathan Kwong was polite, knowledgeable and patient. He also was not pushy (unlike some companies) which we also appreciated (in fact, this was the deciding factor in selecting the travel company for this trip).

3. How would you rate your package in terms of value for money?

4. How would you rate the accommodation against your expectations?
All the hotels were very good. The standout was The Screen in Kyoto. The hotel itself was excellent - the room we had was spectacular and the location, opposite the beautiful Kyoto Gyoen National Garden and within walking distance of the commercial centre, was fantastic. The Yoshimatsu ryokan in Hakone felt special. The room was huge and having the private hot spring bath was lovely. The staff here were exemplary. Both hotels in Tokyo were good and, as noted above, it was nice to experience two different hotels, in two different locations, within the city.

5. Please give us your comments on the transport included in your package.
This all worked perfectly. Navigating public transport was easy and the private car transfers worked seamlessly - the divers were all efficient and courteous.

6. Please comment on any professional guiding included in your package?
All three guides were good, particularly our main guide in Kyoto (Aubrey Cameron), as noted above. Aubrey was extremely well informed and was able to bring fascinating insights into the tour. With him we felt we were getting a true insiders view which we very much appreciated. The guide in Tokyo (Yoshio Suzuki) was also good but, although his English is excellent, we had to concentrate hard on what he was saying which became tiring after a while. He was a very nice person, though, and polite and professional at all times. The other guide in Kyoto (Junko Ogawa) was also good and we enjoyed this (geisha) tour more than we thought we would. Junko was good fun and put a lot of effort into the tour.
