1. How would you describe your overall level of satisfaction with us as your tour operator?
This was my husband’s and my first trip to Japan. We’re experienced travelers that normally schedule all our reservations ourselves, but between the language barrier and choosing where to go, we found ourselves overwhelmed by Japan and all its offerings. Planning a self-directed custom trip with Inside Japan turned out to be a perfect solution. Their website was super helpful in giving us ideas. Tanner, our “Travel Consultant”, was a good listener and took the time to understand our interests and our desired level of comfort & independence. He was knowledgeable, well-traveled in Japan, and was able to help us plan an itinerary that was diverse, tailored to our interests, and perfectly paced to our liking. Inside Japan arranged our transportation, reserved our lodging, and set us up for a private tour guide two of the days. Otherwise, we were on our own. Ahead of the trip, they provided us a great booklet with helpful travel tips and another booklet with our itinerary, lodging, and transportation info. Upon arriving at our first hotel, there was a package awaiting us with all our train tickets and our portable wi-fi unit. Once there, everything went exactly as planned, so we never had to call Inside Japan for help, although they made it very clear they were there to help if needed. Throughout the trip, we were constantly impressed with how perfectly planned everything was. We loved all the lodging choices, the timing of the transportation, and the occasional splurges we green-lighted for when it made sense. The two guides we had (one in Tokyo the first day and another in Kyoto) were both fantastic and well worth it. They were great at answering our questions, showed us things we wouldn’t otherwise have seen, plus helped us learn to navigate the subways, line up correctly, and pay for ramen. It turned out to be one of the best trips we’ve ever taken. Inside Japan provided the bones, while we retained our independence and all the fun of having to figure things out ourselves. What a great country. We are definitely going back.
