Japan honours Clint Eastwood
Veteran Hollywood legend Clint Eastwood has been named as one of the foreign recipients of Japan's annual spring honours.

The country's foreign ministry said the 78-year-old actor and director is being recognised for increasing mutual understanding between the US and Japan after releasing two movies focussing on their roles in World War II, reports Kyodo News.

He will receive the Order of the Rising Sun after directing Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima in 2006.

Eastwood, famous for starring in the Dirty Harry movies, will join the likes of 2004 Nobel Peace Price laureate Wangari Maathai, Fifa president Sepp Blatter and former Italian prime minister Lamberto Dini, who will also be decorated.

During his career, Eastwood has collected four Oscars, in addition to 101 other awards and 64 nominations, notes the Internet Move Database.

The latest film in which he appeared was last year's Gran Torino. He also directed the movie.
