Japan to start WBC campaign
Japan will launch its World Baseball Classic (WBC) campaign today (March 5th) against China at the Tokyo Dome.

Yesterday, Japan manager Tatsumori Hara confirmed that right-hander Yu Darvish would start as pitcher in the opener.

Mr Hara commented: "Yu Darvish is going to start.

"His condition has been getting better and better as we get closer to the tournament and I'm excited to watch him pitch the first game for Japan."

Japan is Pool A of the tournament which consists of 16 other nations, including China, South Korea and Taiwan.

The two teams that finish top in each group will progress to the second round in the US. The final will take place on March 23rd at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, reports Japan Today.
