Japanese comedian celebrates 50 years in the business
Popular Japanese comedian Kato Cha has confirmed that he plans to continue in the business for the foreseeable future despite celebrating his 68th birthday.

Kyodo News reports that he has spent the last half-century entertaining the Japanese public as part of the slapstick comedy group the Drifters.

Shimura Ken, Takagi Boo and Nakamoto Koji are the remaining members of the comedy group following the death of Ikariya Chosuke seven years ago.

"As the Drifters, we were like a family, always together," Kato explained.

He added "I want to perform new materials with the four of us as the Drifters while we are all alive."

Kato was originally a talented drummer for a number of years before trying his hand at comedy.

The Drifters enjoyed success in Japan from 1960s to the mid 1980s and opened for The Beatles in 1966.
