Munroe loses in Japan
Boxer Rendall Munroe has failed to become the new WBC super-bantamweight champion in Japan.

The British fighter lost to Japan's Toshiaki Nishioka in Tokyo, with the home boxer scoring ahead with all three judges. Nishioka won his previous four title fights by knockout but against the left-hander Munroe it went the full 12 rounds.

"My opponent was really good and put a lot of pressure on me. My plan was to use my speed and bob to the side as I hit him," said Nishioka, reports Kyodo News.

He added: "Everyone was hoping that I would get a knockout but unfortunately I wasn't able to do it. I'm sorry."

It was only the second loss for Munroe and fans are optimistic that he could have another shot at the title in the near-future.

The fight was held at Tokyo's main sumo area, the Ryogoku Kokugikan, which is two minutes from Ryogoku station.
