Japan offers fantastic accommodation options with something to suit all tastes and every budget. There are luxurious western style hotels, beautiful traditional inns, atmospheric temples lodgings and relaxing spa resorts. Wherever you like to stay whilst on holiday we are sure you will find it in Japan.

In this section we present just a few of our favourite accommodation experiences. These cross a range of budgets (especially for the Japanese inns) and we believe will be a real highlight of your trip. Each has something unique to recommend it that places it above the other accommodation available in that area.

If you donít see your preferred accommodation in this section, then do not worry! We work with thousands of hotels and across the length and breadth of Japan and can nearly always provide rooms at the accommodation of your choice.

Lamp no Yado

The Lamp no Yado is a haven of tranquillity and relaxation tucked away in a small cove at the top of the Noto Peninsula in Ishikawa Prefecture. The secluded nature of the inn - surrounded by cliffs on three sides, the sea on the other and accessed only by winding coastal roads - means it is something of a hidden gem; a secret onsen away from the rush of modern life, offering a luxurious, private getaway in unforgettable surroundings.

With only fourteen rooms, the focus is on individuality; each room enjoys a view of the ocean and some have their own outdoor, private hot spring bath attached. The inn offers exquisitely prepared food, including fresh shellfish and the Lamp no Yado's own exclusive wine and sake.

The Lamp no Yado is spectacular all year round whether it be during the warmth of the summer of during the freezing winters. Every season has something to recommend it. During spring you can drive down the coast and see the beautiful cherry blossoms whereas in winter the cold blue skies and heavy snow fall can produce some truly spectacular scenes. You should keep in mind that the Lamp no Yado is extremely popular and getting a room in the peak seasons of spring (late March through to mid-April) and autumn (mid November to early December) can be very difficult. Early booking is recommended.

The Lamp no Yado is located just outside the town of Suzu, close to the northernmost tip of the Noto Peninsula. Access is only by private car so if you wish to stay here you will need to drive. Car hire can be included as part of any of our Self-Guided Adventures in Japan or Fully Tailored Japan holidays. A classic route will see you driving from Kanazawa up to Suzu and then dropping your car in Toyama.
