Japan's representatives for this year's world cosplay summit have been revealed as an unnamed female duo.
Dressed as characters from the film Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind by Hayao
Miyazaki, the two girls were picked to represent Japan after successfully competing in a recent qualifying event in
Tokyo, reports Mainichi Daily News.
The pair performed as Naoki and Kikiwan Shigure at the event in Japan's capital.
A popular pastime in Japan, cosplay - literally costume play - involves the dressing up as a character from a number of different cultural sources, including manga, computer games and anime.
Commenting on the Japanese heats, Masakazu Morita, a voice actor and one of the judges at the event, said: "I'm glad that I was able to see cosplayers right in front of my eyes as a judge. I think Japanese cosplayers are really great."
The first-ever world cosplay summit was held in 2003.
