In this section we present just a few of our favourite accommodation experiences. These cross a range of budgets (especially for the Japanese inns) and we believe will be a real highlight of your trip. Each has something unique to recommend it that places it above the other accommodation available in that area.
If you donít see your preferred accommodation in this section, then do not worry! We work with thousands of hotels and across the length and breadth of Japan and can nearly always provide rooms at the accommodation of your choice.
Eco Farm Stay
What better way to get beneath the surface of Japan, than to stay on a small family-run farm in unspoilt countryside.
Brown's Field gives you the chance to do just that. Tucked away in Chiba Prefecture's Boso Peninsula, Brown's Field consists of a traditional Japanese farmhouse, the Rice Terrace cafť (open at weekends), a yurt, a couple of rice fields and lots of ducks, goats and cats.
The farm was founded in 1999 by essayist and Macrobiotic cooking teacher Deco Nakajima and her husband, writer/photographer Everett Kennedy Brown.
Guests stay in one of two beautifully carved tree houses or the main room, a restored barn. There's plenty to do during a stay here: explore the nearby bamboo forest, borrow a bike and cycle to the coast, play with the goats or read a book in the hammock.
Meals are eaten communally with all guests and staff around the big table in the main house. The food is 100% vegan and healthy, with ingredients produced at Brown's Field or neighbouring organic farms.
All year around, although it'll be pretty cold in winter. Go in spring to see baby animals and rice planting, summer for lush vegetation and autumn for spectacular fall colours.
Brown's Field is just over an hour's journey from Tokyo Station. But it couldn't feel further from the bright neon lights!
