Special subjects: Kyoto, art

Ruth Hubbard, AKA the Queen of Kyoto, came to Japan via an eclectic array of professions – ranging from marketing Bosch power tools in Germany to entertaining kids at an Italian summer camp, teaching English in Malawi, working in a flower shop and scoring at a clay pigeon range – to name but a few.

She reached Japan in 2006, and spent two years teaching English in (you guessed it) Kyoto. On her return to the land of cider, pubs and cheese, Ruth then spent five years cutting her teeth as an InsideJapan travel consultant before taking on the role of Product Manager in 2014.

When she's not in the office or on the road, Ruth is a stalwart of her local netball team, a fan of foreign films and cider, and loves reading books set in far-flung places.
