Our team at Inside Japan Tours
The sun never sets on the InsideJapan Tours team (well, maybe on Sundays) as we have offices in Bristol (UK), Boulder, (USA), Brisbane (Australia) and Nagoya (Japan). On this page you can meet the people behind our Japan tours and holidays.
We have a wide range of backgrounds and interests, but you can be sure that the one thing that ties us all together is a love of Japan, Japanese culture and a passionate desire to share that with other people.
From the accounts department, through the travel consultant teams to the tour leaders and guides on the ground, you can rest assured that everything we do is to make sure you have the best possible experience of Japan.
Talk about a portfolio career; before joining us as a travel consultant, Steven's past lives include being an Olympic weightlifting coach and personal trainer, an ITV post-production co-ordinator and an English teacher in Japan.
Scottish born and bred, Steven only learnt about Japan aged 10 from a friend who had lived there, in his words, "it opened up a whole new world". In the next few years he wore out a VHS copy of Patlabor (for the uninitiated: a manga film about giant robots) before refining his cinematic tastes during a degree in English Literature and Film, specialising in horror and Japanese film.
After moving to Japan to teach English in Minami Aizu, he fostered a habit of devouring inari zushi (sushi rice wrapped in fried tofu) and sekihan onigiri (red bean rice balls) almost whole. But despite eating Japanese food with abandon, he failed to find a replacement for prawn cocktail crisps. This may or may not have played a part in his return to the UK...
A fan of physical challenges, Steven taught himself to snowboard in Japan. While no mean feat, it pales in comparison to more recent achievements; most notably becoming a qualified Olympic Weightlifting coach and cycling solo from Vancouver to the Mexican border. His most recent goal? 52,000 press-ups in a year to raise money for charity. Anyone else feeling tired?
