Our team at Inside Japan Tours
The sun never sets on the InsideJapan Tours team (well, maybe on Sundays) as we have offices in Bristol (UK), Boulder, (USA), Brisbane (Australia) and Nagoya (Japan). On this page you can meet the people behind our Japan tours and holidays.
We have a wide range of backgrounds and interests, but you can be sure that the one thing that ties us all together is a love of Japan, Japanese culture and a passionate desire to share that with other people.
From the accounts department, through the travel consultant teams to the tour leaders and guides on the ground, you can rest assured that everything we do is to make sure you have the best possible experience of Japan.
Originally from Perth in Western Australia, John swapped coasts and, after a stint in Melbourne, made Brisbane his home.
When he's not planning his next trip, John can be found making the most of living in vibrant Brisbane by dipping into art galleries and the city's finest coffee shops.
Despite being a competitive gymnast as a child, he went on to study film at university. It was here, after watching plenty of Japanese movies, he found became fascinated by the culture - even adding a Japanese Studies minor to his degree.
Full of wanderlust and an enthusiasm for all things Japanese, he packed his bags and ended up staying in Japan for four years to teach English. Having lived there for so long, it could be tricky to name a favourite place, but John insists (without hesitation) that the "art-islands" of the Setouichi inlet are the most special in all of Japan. He recommends making Takamatsu a base, and taking a ferry to discover a different island each day.
While living in Japan, he couldn't get enough of aburi - raw salmon coated in Japanese mayonnaise and then blowtorched being, in his words, "perfection". If pushed to find one thing he did miss, he concedes that there's nothing quite like his Mum's cooking (some things are universal).
