Hakuba is one of Japan's premier winter sports resorts, and after hosting several events of the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic Games, is one of its best known resorts too. Situated high in the Japan Alps (often referred to as 'The Roof of Japan'), but just three hours from Tokyo, Hakuba is a fantastic way to enjoy the best of Japan's amazing snow conditions, without the need for domestic flights or lengthy transfers. You also get the chance to get to know two of Japan's major icons; the amazing Shinkansen (bullet train) and the famous snow monkeys - their hot spring base is an easy excursion from Hakuba!
The trip starts and ends with a night in the capital Tokyo. You will be based in the vibrant Shinjuku district, the perfect place to dive headlong into Japan, with its neon lit streets buzzing with energy, and more shopping, restaurant and nightlife options than you would need in a lifetime!
On day 2 you will board the famous Shinkansen and speed north to Nagano city, where a short bus ride will take you to Hakuba itself. Here you will 6 nights, giving you 5 full days on the slopes, with the All Valley lift pass included, giving you access to the full array of Hakuba's slopes.
After a hard day on the slopes you will be keen for some après-ski, and Hakuba has plenty on offer, from a relaxing soak in a hot-spring bath to a great range of bars and restaurants, with both traditional Japanese and familiar western options available. There are also some great excursions options available, allowing you to take a beak from the slopes, or perhaps to check out some of the other resorts in the surrounding mountains. The famous snow monkeys at Yudanaka are an easy day trip; A photograph of these cheeky chaps as they relax in their own hot-spring makes for the ultimate winter Japan souvenir!
After 6 nights in Hakuba it is back to Tokyo on the Shinkansen, for a final night among the bright lights, until you head back to the airport to head home; you will probably planning your return visit already!

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1 Tokyo
Welcome to Japan! Your package includes a 4-day JR East Rail Pass, and you will use this to take the comfortable Narita Express train to Shinjuku station, where your hotel is situated. After checking in you have the rest of the day (and night!) free to start your exploration of the city, and the Shinjuku district alone has more than enough to keep you entertained!
Day 2 Hakuba
Today you head north into the mountains, aboard the famous Shinkansen. You are free to leave Tokyo as early or late as you like, so can spend the morning further exploring the city, or make an early start to allow you to hit the slopes that very afternoon! The Shinkansen takes you to Nagano city, where a short bus transfer will take you on to Hakuba.
Day 3 to Day 7 Hakuba
You have 5 full days to enjoy the huge range of slopes that Hakuba offers. Your package includes the All Valley lift pass giving you full access to all 7 resorts, with Hakuba 47, Goryu and Happo-one (pronounced Ha-por-ney, not Hakuba 1!) among the top choices!
Day 8 Tokyo
Time to head back to Tokyo, again with full flexibility over what time of day you travel, so you could even squeeze in a few extra hours on the slopes if you like! Back in Tokyo you will have a final evening to enjoy the best of the urban Japan, and will again be based in the Shinjuku district, the perfect place to end your trip on a real high!
Day 9 Depart
Sadly it is time to leave Japan! You will use your rail pass one last time to take the Narita Express back to the airport. Have a safe flight!
