Japan in Winter

Experience an enchanting winter wonderland

Japan is rightly proud of its four distinct seasons, and winter is something of a hidden gem! Whilst winter sports like skiing and snowboarding are perhaps the obvious options, there are also some great highlights away from the slopes for those who head to Japan from December through to March. Snap an iconic shot of the famous snow monkeys, or gaze in amazement at the awesome snow and ice sculptures at Sapporo’s festival. Spot majestic cranes and eagles in Hokkaido or tuck into some hearty winter food, with a hot sake on the side! Or simply stroll around the sights free from the crowds of spring, under clear blue skies and capture a classic photo of Mt Fuji at its very best!

Sapporo 'Yuki' Snow Matsuri

With gleaming ice sculptures filling the squares of Odori Park, Sapporo is transformed into a winter wonderland for just 1 week every February
