CLASH OF THE TITANS IN TOKYO

See world-class rugby and culture in Japan with a 9-night package priced £866 pp for the Bledisloe Cup finale

Can’t wait for your next instalment of world-class rugby union? A follower of the mighty All Blacks or the Wallabies? InsideJapan Tours has introduced a heavy-weight package in the shape of its ‘Rugby and Culture’ Self-Guided Adventure to take in the final of the Bledisloe Cup and Japan’s historical and natural highlights.

This one-off nine-night trip, competitively priced at £866 pp*, focuses on the Southern Hemisphere clash between New Zealand and Australia in the crunch match of the Bledisloe Cup series, to be held in Tokyo on 31 October. Tokyo is a first-class venue for international sporting events and, coupled with Japan’s growing rugby following which has seen the country chosen as host for the 2019 Rugby World Cup, the atmosphere inside the Olympic Stadium is sure to be buzzing.

The first three nights of the trip are spent in Tokyo’s exciting Shinjuku entertainment district, giving visitors time to explore the sights of this memorable metropolis, from Sensoji Temple to Tsukiji, the world’s largest fish market. This is followed by the chance to see more of Japan with two nights in a traditional Japanese guest house, in the shadow of Mount Fuji, amongst the mountains and hot springs of the Hakone National Park. Before returning to Tokyo for the final big night out, enjoy three nights in the cultural heart of Kyoto taking in some of stunning architecture, temples, gardens and the enchanting geisha who give the ancient Imperial capital its reputation as Japan’s cultural centre.

The ‘Rugby and Culture’ Self-guided Adventure enables rugby fans to experience the country on a budget and with cheap, high-quality food and drink available, eating out will provide a memorable experience without breaking the bank.

*Departing 29 October, it costs £866 pp (based on two sharing a twin room) including nine nights’ hotel and guest house accommodation, some meals, airport transfers, transport between destinations including transfers to the match, the match ticket and InsideJapan Tours’ invaluable information pack.

An upgrade package is available from £1,895 pp, which offers four and five-star accommodation and the addition of private guiding in Kyoto, and all holidays can be tailored to suit. Travellers may wish to arrive a few days early to catch a game in Japan’s Rugby Union Top League; the well-supported semi-pro league of company teams features the likes of the Kobe Steelers and the Sanyo Wild Knights. Both standard and upgraded packages exclude flights which cost from £475 pp with Swiss (Heathrow and Manchester) and can be booked by InsideJapan Tours.

Note to editors: The Bledisloe Cup is a series of three matches between the national rugby union sides of Australia and New Zealand. The first two matches took place in July and August in Auckland and Sydney respectively.
