A group of US veterans from the Second World War have met with members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team, which rescued them from German soldiers who had surrounded their unit, it has been reported.

In total, 40 members from the 1st Battalion, 141st Regiment, 36th Infantry Division of the US army and the combat team met in Houston, Texas, over the weekend (November 1st) to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the famous mission.

The gala and fundraising event was hosted by the National Japanese American Memorial Foundation and was the biggest gathering of people from both groups ever held since the rescue mission took place.

According to the Associated Press, "the bond was apparent as the more able-bodied veterans helped those in wheelchairs or using canes stand up on stage at Sunday's event. During the reunion, the men hugged one another and exchanged stories of the war and of their lives since then".
