Japanese 'green' film festival kicks off
The 22nd Tokyo International Film Festival opened this weekend (October 17th), with stars such as Sigourney Weaver - who featured in the Alien films - among those in attendance.

The first film to be shown at the event was The Cove, a documentary about a dolphin hunt in Japan which takes place each year.

The film was shot by US filmmakers but has come under criticism from some in Japan for showing the country's traditions in a negative way.

In keeping with the current global focus on the environment ahead of the climate change summit set to take place in Denmark later this year, the film event was eco-themed this year.

Celebrities and other attendees walked a green carpet to the event, while Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama wore a green bow tie to keep in with the theme.

Chinese film industry stars such as Huang Jue, Wang Jiajia, Fan Bingbing and director He Ping also attended the festival, reported China Daily.
