New Japanese first lady brings fun to politics
The wife of newly-elected Japanese prime minister Yukio Hatoyama is causing a stir in the political sphere over a number of interesting claims she has made in a book.

Miyuki Hatoyama, who is married to the leader of the Democratic Party of Japan - which enjoyed a landslide victory in this week's general election - claimed to have met Tom Cruise in a former life and said that in his past existence, he was Japanese.

As well as this, Hatoyama allegedly "rode on a triangular-shaped UFO to Venus" some years ago.

In the book released in 2008, Hatoyama also said she likes to "eat the sun" for energy.

The Guardian noted that "she would be regarded as bit of a fruitcake anywhere in the world - in Japan’s staid political culture, she is unique".

Hatoyama met his wife when he was studying engineering at the prestigious Stanford University in the US.

At the time, she was working in the entertainment troupe Takarazuka Revue, a group of female singers and dancers.
