Japan midfielder Daisuke Matsui joins Grenoble
Japanese footballer Daisuke Matsui has signed a three-year deal with French Ligue 1 club Grenoble.

The 28-year-old midfielder will link up with countryman Sho Ito at his new club, which is owned by a Japanese company, following a disappointing season with St Etienne in which he scored only one goal in 22 appearances.

Matsui has plied his trade in France since joining Le Mans from Kyoto Purple Sanga in 2004 and has been capped 17 times by his country.

The player is the latest in a series of Japanese footballers to join a European club in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, former Arsenal and Fulham midfielder Junichi Inamoto signed for France's Stade Rennes, rejoining his former Gamba Osaka coach Frederic Antonetti.

Meanwhile, out-of-contract Celtic star Shunsuke Nakamura ended speculation over his future by opting for a free transfer to Spanish side Espanyol, where he is set to commit to a two-year deal.
